‘Architecture is at its best when it is collaborative.’
To paraphrase a quote – ‘An engineer is an expert in one thing, the architect is knowledgeable about many.’ Architecture thrives on its responses to multiple issues, across varied professions. From being sustainable and ecologically responsible, to choosing suitable interior, and exterior, finishes which respond to use and need. Of course architects can choose to drive a design from concept to completion, and many great ideas are born this way. However there is both wisdom and benefit to consultation and collaboration.
We visit doctors because we defer to their knowledge and technical expertise. In a similar way architects do hold a range of interests and knowledge, but benefit from collaboration across skills and qualifications. As this collaboration is enriching and provides more honed and effective final projects.
