About.

In exploring this blog I feel it is beneficial that you learn a little about its author.

My name is Hannah Welby, I have a BSc. (Hons.) degree in Architecture from The Queen’s University of Belfast. I have been interested in architecture from an early age, and when decided on University knew I would regret not exploring the subject at a more intentional level.

After graduating from years of study I am eager to experience the reality of practice. I am diligent and hard-working and hope to continue to build upon the practical and theoretical knowledge that has been seeded at university. My most recent placement was for a non-profit organisation in Canada as an architectural intern. I worked for Engineering Ministries International for four months and focussed on a project in Uganda. We were designing a Master Plan for Chayah Childen’s Home and the project included visiting site and meeting with representatives from the current home.

Part of my passion for architecture stems from my hearts desire to work in the development of neighbours, and the investment in community. I see this as a global issue, from the infrastructure of slums in the developing world, to the often isolated existence found in globally important cities. Architectural design should respond to context, user, perception, present and future needs, and the question of longevity.

Although my interests have been peaked by social, and community design responses. I would like to invest my energy and time in a broad experience of the professional world of architecture. I am aware that although I have skills to offer, there is plenty of interesting, varied and valuable wisdom and experience already to be found throughout the expansive design profession. I would like to work with architects, designers, and allied professions to learn and grow in my knowledge and value to the professional world of architecture. I have a willingness to learn, a dedication to be diligent and hard-working, and a range of practical skills which help to visual projects and come at them from fresh directions.
