As Existing

After visiting site we began creating a set of reference work as a group – including a 1:200 site model and as existing elevations and sections.

Having a contextual basis for decisions is important. Context is what informs architect, and non-architect of the surrounds. We pick up on many things including climatic information, typography, view, cultural significances, and atmosphere. Some things, such as cultural aspects of a site, may involve further investigation, and while factual aspects do involve verification, may things which define a site are noticed subconsciously. We naturally understand a place. I believe places exist everywhere – we are not just surrounded by spaces with function, or no function. The world is made up of multiple places, and the significance and understanding will vary depending on the person who interactions with the place, and their personal background and experience.

Architecturally we can explore the definition and creation of places within space, by discussing Genius Loci.
